Day to day makeup favorites

This probably goes hand in hand with my inner tomboy, but I try to wear makeup as little as possible. I was once shooting a wedding where the grandma and mother of the bride both had GORGEOUS skin. Seriously flawless. The makeup artist was even in awe of it and asked of their secret. "We rarely wore makeup," both of them responded. Now I've ever been an all day everyday makeup person but hearing that made me think twice about feeling the need to put makeup on to run errands or hanging out at home. And I can say that I definitely notice a difference in my skin when I go a couple days with nothing but moisturizer! Now, there are times where makeup is just necessary, I can't be looking like a ragamuffin all the time (yep, ragamuffin). So below are my current makeup basics.
Eucerin face lotion - This stuff is my bread and butter. Last year I was really struggling with melasma and visited a dermatologist. She swore by this stuff and it really is amazing. It's done wonders for my skin! I put it on every morning before makeup or even if I'm not wearing makeup that day at all. You can find this stuff really anywhere!

Revlon Colorstay - I have a couple "fancy makeup" items in my bag, but I'm a drugstore girl at heart. I follow a couple makeup artists on instagram and one did a review on Revlon Colorstay's foundation. Since I was looking for a change I gave it a try and it's actually really good!! I normally apply it with just a standard sponge as an applicator, BUT I picked up this dry/liquid foundation brush from Sephora last week and it is awesome. I now use less foundation but it gives me better coverage! Find it HERE

MAC brow liner - If I have time and want to feel fancy I will fill in my eyebrows a bit. I personally have the craziest bald spots in my eyebrows so this MAC brow liner just evens everything out. This would be what I consider a "fancy makeup" item, haha. You can find it HERE **tip always go one shade lighter then you think** I have brunette brows and they recommended the strawberry blonde color to me!

Maybelline Falsies mascara - When it comes to mascara I'm a drugstore girl all the way. There are so many great ones out there. This is a new fave of mine! They were out of my normal Maybelline kind so I gave the falsies a try and am really happy with it. Don't judge it at first try, with all mascaras I give them a week or so to "break in."

Smith's Rosebud Salve - A friend got my hooked on this stuff! It's only $6 and a very natural lip balm with a hint of pink (it's not as red as it looks pictured HERE). I've seen it sold at Anthropologie or Sephora! Definitely a must.

Tarte power pigment - Now I left this one for last. Although I really like it and it's a current frontrunner in my makeup bag…I'm not completely sold yet that I will buy it again. This is another one of my "fancy makeup" items and for $24 it's pretty, but not a game changer. Right now I'm using the color Blissful, link HERE. I would say, if $24 on a lip color is NBD for you, go for it, just be sure to prime your lips before or at least apply chapstick as it tends to clump up after awhile. If you are like me and it's hard to spend more than $10 on a lip stick/gloss, you can live without it.

So that's it! A little peak into my current makeup favorites.

  1. Totally with you about drugstore mascara! I always use the Maybelline Colossal, but I may just have to try this Falsies kind!

    1. Yaa!! It's really awesome. Only bummer it's super hard to take off. I use clique makeup remover and that takes it off like a charm!

  2. Dang, now I'm glad that I never do my hair or makeup when I work from home!
