This Thanksgiving

Holidays feel like a blur when you are married, especially when your families live within 10 minutes of each other. It's both a blessing and a curse. Always jumping from house to house, trying your best to make an appearance at each set of parents & grandparents. It gets exhausting but we continue to do it with love each year and remember how thankful we are to have all of these loving family members to celebrate with. Up until last year we were doing multiple Thanksgivings, usually lunch with Paul's family and dinner with my Mom's side. We then meet up with my Dad's side a day or two later for another feast. So much food guys, so much food. Because of horrible traffic from OC to SD we were only able to make it to my families dinner last Thanksgiving, it was at that moment we decided that switching off each year would be much more doable! Why we hadn't thought of that before? I have no idea, haha.
During our post Thanksgiving walk // 2012
The current tradition on the Gilster side is that we all gather at their Uncle Jerry's house in Encinitas. They have a beautiful home and it always feel so cozy! After visiting and stuffing ourselves we take a walk down to the beach and burn some of those turkey & mashed potato calories before reconvening for pie. I'm so excited to get together with everyone and for stuffing. Stuffing is my absolute favorite part of a Thanksgiving meal! What's your favorite part and valued tradition?

  4. We always switch off each year. It just makes it easier and more enjoyable. If his family gets Thanksgiving, then my family gets Christmas. The next year we do the opposite. It works and no one's feelings get hurt. :)

  5. You were trying to keep both families happy that in the end it wasn't working for both of you. Glad you found a new routine.
