Skin care favorites

Over the past couple years, I've become more skincare conscious and have upped my skincare collection and regimen. It actually all started when I began to develop Melasma in my early 20's. For those who don't know, Melasma is a skin disorder that causes dark discoloration on your face, it can occur on your upper lip, cheeks, forehead, and chin. It first started showing itself on my cheeks, friends just thought that I had freckles and I did too for awhile until I noticed that they became darker in the summertime when I was more exposed to the sun. Over the year it moved to my upper lip and forehead. It was so embarrassing and I finally went in to see a dermatologist. She prescribed a couple bleaching creams but mainly just informed me that it was important to stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen on my face everyday (all things my mom told me everyday growing up). So I took her advice and first wanted to see what I could do before introducing harsh bleaching creams to my skin.

She swore by Eucerin's 30spf daily facial lotion which I now use religiously, even when I don't plan to be outside for most of the day. It's a great moisturizer in general! It's been wonderful for my skin and my Melasma has lightened incredibly so I'm able to feel much more confident :) I'd highly recommend it if you are looking for something that is dermatologist approved.

I'm also a huge TJ Maxx-onista (if you will)! Not only do I buy clothes and home items there, I also buy skincare products! There are sooo many brands and products out there that it can become overwhelming. Because I'm purchasing them at TJ-maxx, I'm able to save money and experiment a little. I've found that I'm a big fan of the Yes to Carrots brand. I love the following…

Yes to Cucumbers calming facial max - It's very soothing and gentle. I use it about once a week for 10-15 minutes. It's a great refresher for my skin!

Yes to Blueberries repairing moisturizer - This stuff is seriously great. When I first started using it I met my mom for lunch and she immediately made a comment about how awesome my skin was looking. I told her about this repair lotion and she went out and bought some herself. She now swears by it too! I put this on before bed every night. Note: When I ran out of the blueberry repair lotion I tried to make do with the grapefruit kind (what was currently at TJ Maxx) and it didn't give me the same results. Blueberry all the way.

Another brand I've discovered is called Sukin. It's an all organic natural skincare line based in Australia. I often use Sukin's moisture restoring night cream. It's paraben free and smells like key lime pie. Who doesn't like going to bed smelling like you have key lime pie on your face! Paul normally hates my night creams but can actually tolerate this one! It's rare to find at TJ-Maxx but great if you can snag one. It's $19.99 on Sunkin's website, but I bought it at TJ for just $7.99. I also love almost all St. Ivees products. They are easy to find pretty much anywhere! I always keep a St. Ivees apricot scrub in my shower and use it about 2-3x per week on my face and neck to soften my skin.

All of these products work well for me but I understand everyone's skin is not the same! I would definitely recommend giving them a try though if you are looking for something fresh and new.

  1. I guess I'll be hitting up TJMaxx later, since there's one right around the corner! I've never thought to look there for beauty/skin products. Thanks for the tip! :)

  2. Oooh I have never really thought about looking at TJ Maxx for skin care items - that is such a great idea! I have loved everything I've tried from the "Say Yes to" line but I haven't tried the blueberry lotion yet. I'm totally going to give a shot!
