The Big Apple

Well..I sure wasn't joking when I said we were planning our next trip. We have the dates officially set for our first trip to NYC (Excuse me while I jump around the room like a crazy person). The truth is, I've always had a subtle obsession with the big apple, the energy of the city, the opportunity it provides and the history. My first dream as a child was to work for a magazine in New York. Real life eventually happened but I always continued to see myself living there at some point. We are planning to go for about 5 nights and would love any advice of "must-do's" or favorite places to stay. Finding a hotel in the right location seems so overwhelming, although I'm sure I would be happy with anything! Please leave a comment below of any recommendations you have!

  1. Hi Kelly! Your blog is so cute!

That's so exciting that you're going to New York! I just went this summer for the first time. We were total tourists and went to all of the apparent places, but honestly my favorite day was going to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I also really liked Little Italy and China Town! You can see more of my trip on my blog (we went in July-so if you're interested, you can find it in the July Archive)

Ooo also go to Magnolia Bakery :)

    Hope this helps :)

  2. I'm not sure how much you're willing to spend on hotels, but they're pretty expensive in the city. I visit my grandma who lives 40 minutes out of the city all the time and we've had no problem taking the bus or train into the city (millions of people commute into that city daily so they've got the system down), so you might want to look into a hotel in the suburbs. Also, my boyfriend stayed in an apartment somebody was renting out during the summer that was pretty nice and way cheaper than a hotel room. You might wanna try looking for that too.

As for recommendations: besides the usual: Rockefeller Plaza, Central Park, Madison Avenue... go to Sky Line Park! It's a railroad track converted into a park, with great views of the city and the Hudson. I've seen it in a bunch of movies/commercials since. And take the Subway everywhere (gotta get the real NYC experience!)

    1. Thanks Dana! Yeah the more we've been looking into hotels the more we were drawn to finding a vacation rental, a lot of them are super awesome! Sky Line Park sounds like so much fun.

  4. I definitely agree about the Yankee game You should also see a Broadway show if you have the time. The best restaurants are the ones you just happen upon. I would definitely recommend just exploring the different neighborhoods.

Skyline park is amazing too! It gives you such great views.

  5. Levain bakery on the upper west side is something you can't miss. The cookies are humongous and doughy and just...perfect. It's always my first recommendation to visitors. Have fun!
